Tributes pour in for teen who drowned in Lake Caroline over July 4th weekend
CLINTON, Miss. (WLBT) - Tributes are pouring in for the teenager who drowned in Lake Caroline over the extended July 4 weekend.
The body of Jelani Porter, 19, was recovered Tuesday morning.
Bop’s Frozen Custard of Clinton, who closed Tuesday in honor of Porter, said they are now grieving the loss of their friend and team member.
“Please lift up our staff, his friends, and especially his family in prayer during this time of mourning so that the Lord can strengthen their spirit during this tragic loss,” they wrote.
In a press conference, Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker said that Porter jumped off the back of a boat and never came back up.
The sheriff said that Porter could swim, and did not know why he drowned.
Porter attended Clinton Christian Academy and graduated in 2021. The school described the teenager as “a great student, friend, and member of the CCA family.”
New Hope Christian Academy is also mourning the loss of Porter, who graduated 6th grade in 2015. The school said that they are praying for Porter’s family.
