JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A family is in mourning after their 12-year-old was shot and killed during a tussle between him and a friend.

Monday, new details came to light during the initial court appearance of the three people arrested in connection to the incident.

JPD initially reported that Markell Noah was killed in a Russian Roulette game. However, officers testifying today in court said that Noah was actually killed during a fight with a gun with 14-year-old Caden Naylor.

According to Noah’s mother, Sonya Noah, their entire family had been together for Thanksgiving.

“We enjoy Markell for Thanksgiving,” Noah’s mother, Sonya Noah said. “We ate, we laughed, we played. When I went to bed, my baby was in bed. My bed was on his way to bed rather. We just feel like my baby just was the target and the victim. He got lured out of the house.”

The next day JPD received a call from the family stating Noah was missing. His sister Prymeria Curb said she had a feeling something had gone horribly wrong.

“When my brother came up missing, something was telling me, ‘Mama, we need to go walk back around there; we just go walk, look for something.’ And we went back around, and at the same time we went back around, the police came in and said they found my brother’s body,” Curb said.

According to police, Noah’s body was dumped by Naylor and 17-year-old Eshawn Green at an abandoned home on Audubon Place in Jackson. Twenty-one-year-old Kaylan Owens, who was there at the time of the crime, told no one about the incident.

Now, Noah’s family says they are left to pick up the pieces and will be holding a candlelight vigil tonight in his honor.

“There won’t be no healing. Every time we step into that house, or every time we walk past that house or on the street, we think about it. We don’t have a choice,” Curb said.

“I actually kind of lost my mind at the moment,” said Noah’s sister, Jerkeria Noah. “It was just unbelievable. It was so unreal. You know... all these years that I had with my brother, and I never knew that he would be taken at the age of 12.”

Naylor is charged with murder and tampering with evidence with a one million dollar bond set.

Eshawn Green was also charged with tampering with evidence, and Owens was charged with accessory after the fact.

During today’s court hearing, 3 On Your Side learned that Green and Owens were involved in a separate incident involving armed carjacking in October of 2022. The two were charged with capital murder in the death of 44-year-old Terrell Jenkins.

Noah’s sisters say they are going to miss their family’s biggest supporter.

“He’ll come up and kiss me say, you know, I love you, stuff like this,” Jerkeria Noah said. “So I will really miss those moments, when you know, he would just be there.”

“I just feel like it’ll never be the same at home. I have nobody to tell you, ‘Hey you want to go to this place with me? Go to the store with me?’ I don’t have nobody like that no more,” said Curb.
